HOW CAN A TECHNICAL GUY BECOME SIEBEL FUNCTIONAL?
Siebel has become a huge application and knowing a vertical or the horizontal is no longer enough.
most Analysts I work with have specific expertise:
Order Management
   with subset:
      Order/Quote entry
      Pricing management
      Product/Catalog Management
      Asset-Based Ordering
      contract

Other expertise could be:
Campaign
SFA
Service

module like Account, contact, acivities... are considered are standard now and anyone should know them, whatever their core expertise

being a functional consultant also, if not mostly, require excellent communication strong analytical skills as well as be able to solve problems.
the functional consultant must also "sell" a solution to the customer: powerpoint presentation, demo. It's not easy task to explain to a client how Siebel will work and support their requirements. You have to show it, using diagrams, pictures, keywords, short text. It has to be very user-friendly, if not monkey-proof.

the functional consultant must also be able to write the functional design document (or whatever you call it) with detailled requirments, business rules, data flow, GUI, data rules... etc.
This is the input for the technical team and the document must have be very detailled so the developper doesn't wrongly interpretate the functionality.
But it is also a document the customer must approve and understand. you must find the right balance between the business and the developper.

lastly, the functional must also be able to write proper functional test scripts.

Hi,

IT seems like you have 2 questions:
to answer the question you put in your subject (How to conditionally by-pass some steps from the pricing procedure workflow)
This is simple: you have to add argument "Process Condition" and type in the value what are the conditions to exclude or include the process step.
for instance in WF "Dynamic Pricing Procedure" you can look at the vanilla step "Check Header Price List". the process condition says {Context.Price List Id} IS NOT NULL. Indeed if the Quote or Order Header do not have a Price List (as brought to the workflow via the Variable maps) the process will stop.
Using a decision step to exclude a process step is overkill.

to answer your second question:
I suppose you meant "Conditional Action Transform" and not "conditional transform"
the Conditional Action Transform does not work in a decision step, I suppose you created a regular step with method "Conditional Action Transform".
This method is normally used when you want to set the value of property sets and I don't see how this can help you bypassing a process steps.
Finally, regarding your Context/Header/@ReferenceId.
I cannot really answer that. What you need to check are:
is ReferenceId retrieved from the Quote/order Header
will it update back the Quote/order Header
if yes, to any of the above, you should check your variable maps and integration components.
if you create the property in the workflow, you'd need:
1. add ReferenceId in the process property of your workflows
2. add  ReferenceId in the step argument  as follow:
           Argument=Output Row Set, Type= process property, value=ReferenceId
+        Argument=Output Row Set, Type= Output Argument, value=ReferenceId (if you need ReferenceId in subsequent step)
+       the argument that will set a value ReferenceId

We are version 8.1 and our users are experience significant performance issues.   The system will freeze up or be very slow which is impacting utilization.  Are there some industry standard ways of monitoring performance issues that we could look to benchmark our organization performance against.   We have 5 plus years of call history we are going to purge but no one in IT can tell me if it will have a measurable impact on the performance of the system.   I'm looking for other metrics or best practices we can measure ourselves on.
